Michael Maiorana is a composer from Detroit. After graduating from Grinnell College in rural Iowa, he studied composition, harmony, and counterpoint in the tradition of Nadia Boulanger in Paris, France.

He lives in Minneapolis and was recently awarded a 2018 Artist Initiative grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board to write music for four ensembles across Minnesota. He enjoys finding inspiration in nature, science, and art.
