
Howard Yermish (b. 1971, Philadelphia, PA) has a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music (1994) and a Master of Music from the USC Thornton School of Music (1996). His teachers have included Samuel Adler, Warren Benson, Donald Crockett, Stephen Hartke, Christopher Rouse, Allan Schindler, Joseph Schwantner, and Frank Ticheli. He has received numerous accolades, including the Society of Composers student composition competition, ASCAP Foundation’s Morton Gould Young Composer Award, and various prestigious prizes such as the Presser Foundation Music Award and the Halsey Stevens prize.
His works have been performed by noted ensembles, such as the Choral Arts Society of Philadelphia, the Kansas City NewEar Contemporary Music Ensemble, and the New York New Music Ensemble, and at festivals such as the California State University Summer Arts Festival, the Oregon Festival of American Music, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, the Percussive Arts Society National Convention, and the Society of Composers National Convention. His album, The Piano Inside My Brain, is available through all major streaming services.
