Composer Karen Siegel creates innovative, engaging, and meaningful choral and vocal works. Hailed as “complex and wonderful” (TheatreScene.net) and “colorful and at times groovy” (WQXR.org), her works are frequently performed by the New York City-based ensemble C4: the Choral Composer/Conductor Collective, which she co-founded in 2005.

Siegel’s works are featured on albums by The Crossing, Harmonium Choral Society, the Choir of Trinity College Melbourne, Tonality, and C4; are published by See-A-Dot Music Publishing and Chestnutoak Press; are distributed by Universal Edition and the Justice Choir Songbook; and are reprinted in The Singing Book, Fourth Edition (Rowan & Littlefield, 2024).

Her opera The Hat: Arendt Meets Heidegger, with librettist Zsuzsanna Ardó, premiered at the Pride Arts Center in Chicago with Thompson Street Opera in 2019; her feminist collaborative work “Visions of Flight,” for the Danish National Girls’ Choir and cellist Henrik Dam Thomsen, premiered at DR Koncerthuset in 2022; and her choral sound installation “Lessons of Stone” premiered at the Noguchi Gallery in NYC with the Astoria Choir in 2024.
