Composer Sean Breen is a music teacher at a private k-8 boys’ school in San Francisco, a position he has held for the past 32 years. Breen earned a BA in Music Education with an emphasis in performance (piano) from Frostburg State University in Maryland. In 2006, he earned a MME (emphasis in Kodály) from Holy Names University in Oakland, California. In 2011, he completed a Master’s Degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in the field of Mind, Brain, and Education, where he was named the Intellectual Contributor/Faculty Tribute Award winner as well as 2011 Chester Pierce Fellow.
During his career, he has worked as a musician and a successful composer. Recent works include Take The Stage for commencement at the Harvard Graduate School of Education as well as works for the Holy Names University Kodály Summer Institute Choir, and the HNU Chamber Choir. Along with his music activities, Breen has fashioned a second career as a speaker and writer on educational neuroscience.
Breen was the 2009 recipient of the Hearst Excellence in Teaching Award.
