NY’er Rich Campbell has twice been awarded fellowships by the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. CHORAL: “Border” was the winner of a Chorosynthesis competition. “In Those Years, No One Slept” was a winner of the Uncommon Music Festival award for composition. “We Will Shine Like The Sun” received an award from the Hong Kong Children’s Choir. “Heaven” was the winner of composition awards from The Manhattan Choral Ensemble and Georgia College. “The Wind” was commissioned by the Organization of American Kodály Educators for the National Children’s Choir. “Celebrate A New Day” had its world premiere by the Australian Boys Choir as part of their gala 75th anniversary.

“All The Whiskey In Heaven” was winner of award from Harrisburg Gay Men’s Chorus. “If I Can Sing, I Still Am Free,” had its world premiere by SACRA/PROFANA and the Summer Choral Intensive Choir in San Diego. “If Ever There Is,” sung by the Director’s Chorus, premiered at the Southern ACDA Conference, Francisco Núñez conductor (selected by Philip Brunelle and VocalEssence for the Essentially Choral sessions in Minneapolis). “Coney Island” earned awards for choral composition from both The Manhattan Choral Ensemble and Octarium of Kansas City. “Apple Pie” was the winner of the Wasatch Chorale Ars Nova Emerging Composers Competition. “Winter Stars” was performed by the MIT Women’s Chorale in Cambridge, MA.

“Shelled” and “I Know That” earned awards and were selected for performance by Philadelphia’s Center City Opera Theatre’s “Art Songs For The 21st Century.” “Picnic” was a winner of New Voices for Young Flutists competition. The brass quintet Brass Initiative has recorded “Variations On A Groove.” “American Riffs,” for brass quintet, was a winner of a competition & premiered at Indiana State University’s Contemporary Music Festival. “Come On In,” for brass quintet, was a winner of a competition sponsored by the Washington Composers Forum. As a songwriter, Rich has co-written songs on an album by The Triplets which was nominated for a Grammy. With Cadillac Moon, he co-wrote most of their two CD’s, including the song “Show Me Your Tattoo,” played in the film “Devil’s Advocate.” New Age pianist Christopher Peacock has included Rich’s piece “Home Again” on the CD’s “Destinations” and “Elements: Earth”.

Campbell is a member of the New Dramatists Composer/Lyricist Studio. He collaborated with performance artist Erin Markey on her solo musical, Puppy Love. He has run twenty-six marathons.
