Colin Eatock is a Canadian composer. As well, at various times in his career, he has also been a music critic, author, editor, teacher, and arts administrator. Born in Hamilton, Canada, in 1958, he has called Toronto home for more than three decades.
Eatock’s choral works, songs, chamber music and orchestral compositions have been performed and broadcast in Canada, the USA, and Europe. Some of his compositions may be heard on two CDs on the Centrediscs label: Colin Eatock: Chamber Music, and Colin Eatock: Choral and Orchestral Music. His music has also been released on the Furiant, Echiquier, and Toreador labels. He is an associate member of the Canadian Music Centre, where most of his scores are available.
He has written many articles for international publications. Among them are Toronto’s Globe and Mail and National Post newspapers, Opera Canada, Opus, the New York Times, the Houston Chronicle, American Record Guide, and BBC Music. His first book, Mendelssohn and Victorian England, was published by Ashgate Press in 2009. His second book, Remembering Glenn Gould: Twenty Interviews with People Who Knew Him, was released by Penumbra Press in 2012
Eatock holds a PhD in musicology from the University of Toronto where he has also lectured. As well, he holds masters degrees in music composition and music criticism.
