Ho! wind of heaven, what do you bring? Cool for the dawn, dew for the even, And every sweetest thing. O wind of heaven, from pink clouds driven, What do you bring to me? The low call of thy love who waits Under the willow tree, Whose boat upon the water waits For me, for thee. Though she wrote poetry, Monroe is best known for her role as the visionary founder and editor of Poetry magazine, which welcomed and encouraged the 20th century's most distinguished writers. Established in 1912, the journal continues online today through the Poetry Foundation. The music for “The Message of the Wind” is emotive and lush, reflecting the unabashedly romantic nature of the 1914 verse. It celebrates movement in gentle, undulating patterns which shimmer as they recreate the feeling of the wind blowing, and capture the longing and evocative visceral imagery of Monroe's love poem.
