Composer Composer and educator Christopher M. Lee received his Master of Music from Yale University in 2002, following undergraduate study at the University of Rhode Island. While at Yale, Lee studied as the Harry and Margaret Simeone Scholar, and his works were awarded prizes in contrapuntal and chamber music composition. Lee has completed commissions for the Syracuse Children’s Chorus, Bethesda Music Series (New Haven, CT), and the tuba-euphonium quartet Alchemy, and in 2007 he enjoyed a brief collaboration with renowned poet Thomas H. Troeger to create a commissioned hymn for Bethesda Lutheran Church (New Haven).

Lee’s music has appeared at many venues in the northeastern United States, including the American Guild of Organists (AGO) Northeast Regional Convention in 2015. His tuba quartet Prelude and Groove has enjoyed additional performances in places as diverse as Canada, Germany, and Arkansas. It was also featured as the title track on a 2012 CD release by Alchemy. In 2013 Lee’s choral work Sunrise Along Shore was selected for performance at the Westfield Festival of New Music (MA).

Beyond composing, Lee has taught music theory and music technology at Newtown High School (CT) since 2004. His courses have sparked a keen interest in music composition, marked by numerous student premieres as well as annual reading sessions and concerts devoted to the presentation of student work. In 2013, Lee was one of 50 teachers nationwide selected to receive the Yale Distinguished Music Educator Award and attend the Yale Symposium on Music in Schools. Lee has served on the national scoring team for the Advanced Placement (AP) Music Theory exam since 2012, and in 2015 he was appointed to the AP Music Theory Development Committee as College Board Advisor.
