A Canadian-born composer, Joy DeCoursey-Porter began composing and arranging in college as needed for various groups within her school and church. Relatively new to the professional composing world, since 2011, she has had her pieces performed and well received throughout the world. Her works have placed in the American Prize, been endorsed by Project Encore, the ChoralNet Silver Platter Awards, and have received special mention in the ChoralNet Spotlight blogs.

Her intermediate level piano pieces for students have received mention in Tempo Magazine in British Columbia. Many of hers works can be found through MusicSpoke.

She is the resident composer for the 2018-19 season for the Cascadian Chorale, located in Seattle.
